After an extraordinary 33-year career with the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI)—including 27 years as CEO—Steve Lains has turned the page to a new chapter dedicated to helping leaders and organizations grow.
During his tenure, Steve guided BAGI’s 500+ member organization through dramatic market shifts, from rapid growth in the early 2000s to the challenges of the 2008 housing crisis, and into the recent years of record-breaking demand. Under his leadership, BAGI remained a respected voice for housing affordability, industry advocacy, and professional development. His success in optimizing profits during changing economic cycles, streamlining operations, and enhancing team dynamics has become the foundation for his current work as a coach and mentor.
Steve’s approach blends decades of close work with small businesses in every industry with a deep understanding of leadership, strategic planning, and relationship-building. He draws on his background in government affairs, economic development, and business management to help clients identify opportunities, overcome obstacles, and create sustainable growth.
Today, Steve works with business owners, executives, and emerging leaders who are ready to take their companies to the next level. Whether guiding seasoned CEOs through complex transitions or helping new managers find their footing, Steve’s mission is simple: to help people lead with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
Having recently relocated to the breathtaking mountains of Buena Vista, Colorado, Steve embraces a lifestyle that fuels his energy for coaching – hiking, skiing, climbing, and finding fresh inspiration in nature. He is also a proud new grandfather, cherishing time with his growing family and enjoying the freedom to invest in the success of others.
